Mega Charizard X EX UPC: What’s Actually Inside — And Should You Crack It Open?
When Pokémon announced the Mega Charizard X EX Ultra-Premium Collection, most UK collectors had the same reaction: “Finally, a Charizard box worth getting excited about.” But with prices creeping up and sealed collectors holding strong, the big question remains—is it worth opening?
Here’s a full look at exactly what you get inside, and whether cracking the seal is the right call.

Promo Cards: The Star of the Show
Mega Charizard X EX – Promo #023
This promo is nothing short of stunning. It opts for a more abstract, stylised feel than the usual Charizard artwork, which actually gives it a unique charm. For dedicated Charizard collectors (and let’s be honest, there are plenty of us in the scene), this is absolutely a must-have.

Oricorio EX – Promo #024
Oricorio isn’t exactly a fan-favourite Pokémon—certainly not in the same league as Charizard—but the Shinji Kanda artwork here is genuinely impressive. Kanda’s signature patterned style stands out brilliantly, and just like the Charizard promo, this will look fantastic once graded.
Even if you weren’t hunting for Oricorio, you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised.

Booster Packs – 18 in Total
You’ll find a generous 18 booster packs, broken down as:
6 Journey Together
4 Destined Rivals
4 Mega Evolution
4 Phantasmal Flames
The variety is decent, and it certainly makes opening the box feel more dynamic. That said, it’s a Charizard-themed product, and it feels slightly odd that we don’t get more Phantasmal Flames, the set with the top Charizard chase cards.
It’s not a deal-breaker, but it does feel like a missed trick. If you were hoping for maximum Charizard pull potential, this distribution won’t quite scratch that itch.
Metal Mega Charizard Flip Coin
This surprised me in the best possible way. Most of the coins you get in ETBs and collections are throwaway items—and many of us don’t give them a second look.
But this metal Mega Charizard coin is in a league of its own. Weighty, premium, and visually brilliant, it’s honestly the nicest coin I’ve handled since getting back into the hobby. Even collectors who usually ignore coins will want to keep hold of this one.
Mega Charizard Playmat
The included playmat is the standard Pokémon TCG quality we’re all used to—durable, smooth, and ideal for both play and display.
The difference here is the Charizard artwork, which makes it immediately more desirable. For sellers and streamers, it’ll look fantastic on camera, and you’ll definitely see us using it in our Whatnot set-ups.
Deck Box and Sleeves
These are what you’d expect: solid, serviceable, and nicely themed with the Mega Charizard design.
For players, they’re perfectly usable. For collectors who don’t play (plenty of us fall into that category), they often end up left in the box or moved aside.
If you want to clear some space—and maybe recoup a bit of the box cost—stick them on eBay. Someone will want them.
Rip and Regret: Was Opening the UPC a Mistake?
One thing we love doing here is taking an honest look at whether we should have kept a product sealed—or whether cracking it open was the right call. So, let’s talk about the pulls.
From our Mega Charizard X EX Ultra-Premium Collection, we ended up with the two fantastic promos (the real reason we bought the box), plus the following:
Shedinja Illustration Rare
Piplup Illustration Rare
N’s Reshiram Illustration Rare
Reshiram EX – Double Rare
Mega Lucario EX – Double Rare
Rabsca EX – Double Rare
Now, let’s be honest: it’s not the strongest return on investment. If you’re opening the box purely from a value standpoint, this one could sting a little as this will no doubt inflate. No big hitters, no marquee Charizard chase cards—just a steady line-up of mid-level pulls.
But here’s the thing: we were really after the promos. Those two cards were the main goal from the start, and they absolutely delivered. So while the pack hits don’t shout profit, they do still add variety to the binder, and the promos alone made the opening worthwhile.
Financially, this should be a regret… but in truth, we’re actually happy.
